Film Maker
Born in Olleta (Navarre) in 1949.
Armendáriz, an internationally acclaimed Film Director, obtained a Diploma in
Industrial Studies in Pamplona (1968). He worked as an Electronics Technician
in different companies and as a Teacher of Electronics in several Vocational
Training Schools up until 1982.
In 1999 he set up the production company ORIA FILMS in collaboration with Puy Oria.
The following figure among the awards he has received: the National Film Award in 1998, the Príncipe de Viana Award for Culture in 1998, the City of Salamanca “Estrella de la Cultura” award for 2006, the Cinema and Social Values Award 2008 and the City of Huesca Award 2010.
Armendáriz has recently been named Doctor Honoris Causa by the Public University of Navarre UNPA.
He has received Tributes, and Retrospectives of his work have been put on in places like the Film Archive of Castilla and León Region (1997), the Film Festival of Málaga (1998), the International Festival of La Rochelle (1998), the Film Archive of Strasbourg (1998), the Film Archive of Pontarlier (1998), the Festival of Toulouse (1999), the Festival of Cairo (1999), the Lincoln Center of New York (2001), or the Festival of Guadalajara in Mexico (2002).

“TASIO”, “Makila de Oro” at the Festival of Biarritz, and the Fipresci Award at the San Sebastian Festival. “27 HORAS”, “Concha de Plata” at San Sebastian, and Award for Best Film at the Festival of Montpellier. “LAS CARTAS DE ALOU”, “Concha de Oro” (film), “Concha de Plata” (actor) and the Fipresci Award at the Festival of San Sebastian, as well as two Goya awards. “HISTORIAS DEL KRONEN”, Official Section of the Cannes Festival, and Goya award for Best Script Adaptation. “SECRETOS DEL CORAZON”
“Angel Azul” prize at the Berlin Festival, four Goya awards, “Premio Ondas”, and was nominated for an Oscar. “SILENCIO ROTO”, Best Film Award at the Nantes Festival, and Four Basque Cinema Awards. “ESCENARIO MOVIL”, Prize for Best Documentary at the Basque Cinema Competition, and “OBABA”, which opened the Festivals of San
Sebastian, and Spanish Cinema Now in New York, was selected by the Spanish Academy for the Oscar and received ten Goya awards.
And finally, with ORIA FILMS, he also produced the films “LA GUERRILLA DE LA MEMORIA” (Javier Corcuera) in 2002, and “EL INMORTAL” (Mercedes Moncada) in 2005.
