Philosopher

Javier Echeverría Sponge was born in Pamplona in 1948. He is a researcher at the Basque Science Foundation (Ikerbasque), attached to the Universidad del País Vasco (Department of Sociology II) and university professor on extended leave of absence at the Instituto de Filosofía of the Consejo Superior de Investigaciones Científicas (CSIC). His main areas of research are the philosophy of science and technology; ethics of science; the study of the relationships between science, technology and
society and new information and communication technologies.

Principal books published in recent years: Telépolis (Barcelona, Destino, 1994); Cosmopolitas Domésticos (Barcelona, Anagrama, 1995); Los Señores del Aire:
Telépolis y el Tercer Entorno (Barcelona, Destino, 1999); Introducción a la Metodología de la Ciencia: la Filosofía de la Ciencia en el siglo XX (Madrid, Cátedra, 1999); Ciencia y Valores (Barcelona, Destino, 2002); La revolución tecnocientífica (Madrid, Fondo de Cultura Económica, 2003), Gobernar los riesgos: Ciencia y valores
en la sociedad del riesgo (published in collaboration with J. L. Luján, Madrid, OEI-Biblioteca Nueva, 2004) and Ciencia del bien y el mal (Barcelona, Herder, 2007). He is a member of the International Academy of the Philosophy of Science and deputy chairman of the Sociedad Española Leibniz. He was awarded the Anagram Essay award 1995, the Euskadi Research Prize 1997 in Humanities and Social Sciences and the National Essay Prize 2000 (awarded by the Ministry of Culture for his work Los Señores del Aire).
