Jáuregui Bereciartu, Gurutz


Expert on Constitutional Law

Born in Urretxu. Professor of Constitutional Law at the Universidad del País Vasco. He has been the vice-rector of the Universidad del País Vasco, Dean of the Law School, and director of the Department of Constitutional and Administrative Law.
He has been a visiting lecturer at various universities in Europe - Oxford, Consiglio Nazionale delle Recerche de Roma), USA (Reno, Puerto Rico) and Latin America (Dominican Republic, Bolivia, Peru, Chile, Brazil, Mexico). He has also served a scientific advisor to the UN (UNRISD).
He has written thirteen individual books and has also directed and contributed to of over fifty joint publications and published more then thirty scientific articles in Spanish, Basque, Catalan, English, French, Italian and German.

He has won a number of accolades, including:
- the Eusko Ikaskuntza/Caja Laboral Popular Award for Humanities and Social Sciences 2003 for the best career in social sciences and humanities in the Basque Country.
- the Euskadi Award for Research in Human and Social Science 2004, awarded by the Basque Government for the best career in social sciences and humanities in the Basque Country.
- "Ana Frank" Award 1995, for defence of human rights and the culture of peace.
- "El Correo" Award for Journalism (1998)
He was also shortlisted for the Anagram Essay Prize. 1994; the Ministry of Culture's National Essay Prize 1995 and 1997 and the Jovellanos International Essay Prize. 2000.
