Born in Errenteria in 1949, Landa holds graduated in philosophy and the arts. She is a tenured lecturer in Literature Teaching at the Escuela Universitaria del Profesorado de Donostia, Universidad del País Vasco.

She has worked on numerous journals and newspapers in the Basque Country, but her creative work has centred especially on literature for children and young people in the Basque language. She has written thirty books for children, and much of her work has been translated into Spanish, Catalan and Galician and into other foreign languages, including English, French, German, Greek, Arab, Korean, Albanian.

She has received a number of prizes for literature, including the Lizardi Prize for Children's Literature in Basque with her story Txan Fantasma in 1982 and the Euskadi Prize for Literature for Children and Young Adults in 1991 with her work Alex.
Her book "Un cocodrilo bajo la cama" won the Spanish Ministry of Culture's National Award for Literature for Children and Young Adults in 2003.
Her book Iholdi, was included in the IBBY honours list in 1992, as was "Krokodiloa ohe azpian" in 2006.
"Elefante corazón de pájaro" was selected for the White Raven list 2001, drawn up by the renowned Munich International Youth Library.
The OEPLI (Spanish Organisation for Children's and Youth Literature) nominated her for the International Andersen Prize 2008, awarded by the IBBY.
In 2004 she was awarded the Civil Merit Medal by San Sebastián city council and the City Medal awarded by Errenteria City Council in recognition of her career and her literary work.
She recently published an autobiographical novel, "La fiesta en la habitación de al lado". (Erein 2007)
