Chemist Physicist, President of Jakiunde
Born in 1957 in Bergara (Gipuzkoa).
Professor of Physical Chemistry. Graduate of the University of Valladolid in 1981, and Doctor of Chemistry at the same University. Post Graduate studies at the Dalhousie University, Canada, in 1986 and 1989 and at Oak Ridge National Laboratory, Tennessee, in 1984.
Professor of the Faculty of Chemistry at the University of the Basque Country from 1994 to the present. Visiting Professor at Cornell University, Ithaca, New York, in 1992, and at Notre-Dame de la Paix Namur University, Belgium in 1991.
He has produced more than 200 scientific publications and 20 scientific essays throughout his career.
He has supervised 9 doctoral students, of which 6 were European doctorates. He has organised nine international scientific conferences. As a member of the Jakiunde academy he organised its first international symposium, held in August 2008 under the title “The role of scientific academies in modern societies”.
He was awarded the Euskadi Research Award in 2003, the X. M. Munibe research award in 1997, the Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada International Scientific Exchange Award and the Killam Post Doctoral Fellow Award 1989 in Halifax, Canada. He also received the Extraordinary Doctoral Award in 1985.
